When the Sun Rises

When the sun rises, look to the sky,

If you stare long enough, it just might catch your eye,

Feel the warmth, the light, the joy, the comfort

When it makes you smile,

Trust me, when the sun rises,

The radiant light can make you blind

Because the feelings are unstable,

The emotions are unbearable,

When the sun rises,

Just keep hope alive,

Because when the sun sets,

It’s now or never, without any regrets.

Maya Angelou

Born Marguerite Johnson, Maya Angelou spent her formative years shuttling between St. Louis, Missouri, a tiny, totally segregated town in Arkansas, and San Francisco where she realized her ambition of becoming that city's first black streetcar conductor. During the 1950s, she studied dancing with Pearl Primus in New York, later appearing as a nightclub singer in New York and San Francisco. She worked as an editor for The Arab Observer, an English-language weekly published in Cairo; lived in Accra, Ghanna, where under the black nationalist regime of Kwame Nkrumah she taught music and drama; and studied cinematography in Sweden. She became a national celebrity in 1970 with the publication of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, the first volume of her autobiography, which detailed her encounters with southern racism and a rape by her mother's lover.

In 1971, she produced Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water 'fore I Diiie: The Poetry of Maya Angelou; in 1975, Oh Pray My Wings Are Gonna Fit Me Well; in 1979, And Still I Rise; and in 1983, Shaker Why Don't You Sing? In 1977, she was nominated for an Emmy award for her portrayal of Nyo Boto in the television adaptation of the best-selling novel "Roots."

Three more volumes of her autobiography have been published: Gather Together in My Name (1974); Singin' and Swingin' and Gettin' Merry Like Christmas (1976); and The Heart of a Woman (1981). In 1986, All God's Children Need Traveling Shoes was published. Angelou's other works include Mrs. Flowers: A Moment of Friendship, and Now Sheba Sings the Song.

On January 20, 1993, Angelou read her poem, "On the Pulse of Morning," during the inauguration of President Bill Clinton.

NBA All Star Weekend

Another all-star weekend is upon us. The mood in the looker rooms seems to be tranquillo, as the two squads are getting ready, for yet another epic battle. Just ask the fans who witness the slam dunk contest last night, with the return of the slam dunk champion, Nate Robinson, who won it for the third time, or Steve Nash who entered the skills contest, and won yet another skills competition. Though it was exciting to watch, most of the attention is placed on the all-star game, as experts are predicting the dominance of Kobe Bryant and the western squad, and the size problems the front court persents for the eastern squad. The western squad seems to have the edge when it comes to the fire power department, but don't count out the east, as Dwayne Wade and LeBron James are playing the best ball of their careers. Despite the outcome of the game, the fans are looking to be mesmerized and captivated by the trick and innovated moves these players have up their sleeves. And hopefully we will witness someone being posturized on the instant replay. As the players bring out their tricks and arsenal for the public to see. I believe it will be a good game, and the east will come out on top. With the play of Dwayne Wade and LeBron James, and the season they are having, it’s hard to count them out.

Valentines Day

With a couple days left, everyone is looking for the perfect gift to buy, to show how they feel about their significant other. While others are looking for cupid to work his magic, and strike them with a dosage of love. Valentines Day was a holiday dating back to the early Christians 496 AD. I believe that Valentines Day is a holiday that is a consumer's holiday, because it focuses on the materialistic aspect of love, instead of the feeling and thought that goes into loving someone. Yes, it’s important to buy gifts, to show how you feel about your lover, but to me it’s the icing on the cake, because love is not based solely on that. It’s the feeling and joy one gets when their around someone. Its something that gifts can't put into words. Why dedicate one day to love, when love should be expressed on a periodic basis. Remember the love is based on feelings and emotions, and that is something that the most expensive can never replace. In my opinion, Valentines Day is a day for the consumer to capitalize on the lonely hearted, who is looking for someone to love them.

Linkin' Park - Not Alone [NEW SONG 2010] Haiti

Through My Blurry Eyes(Dedicated to my childhood friends)R.I.P

Through my blurry eyes, I seen death, poverty, violence,

I've seen youths confused, doing what they have to do, with nothing to lose,

I've seen things that will make you want to quiver

I've also seen the treasure, that would make your body want to shiver,

I've seen the possibilties, that can lead to sanity,

I've seen the desperation, that can lead to uncertainty,

I've seen the doubt, the pain, emotions intertwine, that can lead to confussion,

I've seen the hate, the angar, if they can only channel it, and spark a revolution,

In my quest to live a complete life, I hope I live half as twice,

because If I continue to witness this, it would be difficult for my soul to exist.
