Lakers Dominance

The Lakers won their 16 championship in franchise history, leaving their mark as one of the most dominant teams in NBA history. Game 7 was played down to the wire, as both teams hit huge shots and made huge plays down the strech, but towards the end, the Lakers won the game on the boards, and made more plays to win the game. The difference were Derrick Fisher and Ron Artest. Both players hit two turning point three´s to swing the momentum in their favor. On a night and expense of his 5 championship, Kobe Bryant made one of the funniest comments that could be ever been made by a basketball player, when a reporter asked, what makes this championship special to you as an individual, Kobe said,¨I have one more to Shaq, so you can take that to the bank. Statments like that, shows his competitive spirit and wiliness to win. Their is no argument about it, he has solidify his greatest on the game. The difference now compared to the player he was in the past, is his ablity and effectiveness to distrubute the ball and trust his teammates. We all know he´s a force to be reckeon with, but when it comes down to individuality, no one superstar can win championshipships, but his maturity as a basketball player has made the difference.At only 31 years old, and still plays at a high level. Kobe Bryant can past his idol Micheal Jordan,for possibily two more championship. Whatever the future holds, I can´t tell you, but as for the moment, there is no question, Kobe Bryant is the ultimate competitor, who will be the talk on alot of people´s minds, for arguably being the greatest player to ever played the game.

World Cup Fever 2010

While many spectators enjoy watching the Super bowl, NBA finals, MLB finals and the Stanley Cup Finals, the world goes crazy for the biggest spectacle, dating back 70 years. The FIFA world Cup. The world cup is the biggest competition known worldwide, that gives the world something to look forward to every four years. Banners, bumper stickers, T shirts, flags will be waving all around the globe, as sports fan shout and scream from the top of their lungs, supporting their favorite teams. In a three week span, endurance, wits and skills, will be displayed, and the team that shows the best of these qualities along with the will to win, has the right to be called the best in the world. I know for me as a youth growing up in Jamaica, the top teams that I rooted for were, Jamaica, Brazil Argentina, Ghana, and Nigeria. This time around, I am picking the US. The World Cup for me is something that means honor, because it’s a time when people forget about their problems and enjoy themselves. As soccer memorabilias will be the top priorities on sports fan minds, as pride is shown globally. Bars will be filled, grills will be turned on, and words will be exchange, for the love of the sport that brings happiness to so many. The representation of why many love their country for the same reason why I love mine will be televised and broadcast. There is no greater feeling then wearing the colors of your country, that you love honor and respect, knowing you’re recognized for being the best in the world at that particular moment, until your team has to prove itself all over again, in another four years. Nicaragua- Granada

I had the opportunity to visit the country of Nicaragua for the second time since my arrival in Central America. This time I got a chance learn about the history of this unique country. I arrived on Saturday evening. I stayed in Grenada, which is the city that boarders the capital of Managua. Managua is the oldest city in Central America. It was first inhabited by native Indians, until the colonization of Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba in the name of Spain, which eventually changed the dynamics of the culture. Nicaragua was first known as the sister capital in Central America to Antigua, Guatemala. Its economy strives on tourism and exports. It’s also known as the poorest country in Central America. Upon arrival I saw the historical building and the architecture of the Spaniard influence. The roads are relatively small, but convenient and easy to pass through. Many locals spend there times selling merchandise to have a decent living. You can see the age rage, varying from the youngest, which were around seven years old, to the oldest, which were about 70. Many children are poor, and don’t have the funds to go to school, so the share the responsibilities with the rest of the family. As I walked through the streets, many asked me if I wanted drugs, sex, or anything to provide some kind revenue. It was shameful to witness this, and it made me more appreciative of what I had, compared to those who didn't have. I saw things that I only heard of, but never had the exposure to see with the naked eye, in my twenty- eight years of living. Walking down the street, I would never though I would see children sniffing clue and offering their bodies for sex. I was offered many times, and was discussed, because deep down, I understand where it came from, and that was the only way they knew how to survive, especially when the children looked on encouraging the tourist to buy their sisters or their mothers.If the children weren't in school they worked the streets as pimps or beggars getting money anyway possible, as they wanted a decent meal to eat. Nicaragua does not have many employment opportunities, but if relatively cheap to live. I ate breakfast for two dollars. And I ate lunch and dinner for two dollars. The cost of living is really cheap, especially for those who want to retire. This shed light of why so many Americans Germans Italians migrate there. The people of Nicaragua are extremely friendly and open to tourist. The best part of the trip came, when I had the chance to walk around the marketplace and mingle with the locals. Speaking and connecting with them anyway possible. They spoke in their native tongue, telling me jokes about the woman of Nicaragua, and how they liked dark skin men. The hostel where I stayed was very nice. They charged five dollars a night for a single dorm, which I thought was a great deal. The people at the hostel were friendly and generous, giving me a brief history lesson, about the pride of Nicaragua. It was evident from what I observe, many Nicaraguans weren' t rich when it came to money, but they find happiness in the small things. A simple discussion, walk, riding bikes, or horses back riding, walking with the company of friends and family, or even swapping jokes and stories, which makes their lives enriched. I really had a great time. Can’t wait to visit  Nicaragua again. Next time, I’m going to visit another famous city there, called Managua. Hope you enjoyed the blog. :)

29 Years Later The Legend Lives

Its hard to believe, its been 29 years since the world lost a musican and revolutionary, that sparked the cords of love and harmony into the hearts of many. Bob Marley still remains one of the most influential people to this time. He´s love of reggae music and rastafarian is credited for his vision of love, peace and harmony in the world. Leaving a collective library of music that changes the world. His music spoke for those who were oppressed, lack of self expression, and human rights. His biggest hits include,“I Shot the Sheriff“, “No Woman, No Cry“, “Could You Be Loved“, “Stir It Up“, “Jamming“, “Redemption Song“, “One Love” and, together with The Wailers, “Three Little Birds“,as well as the posthumous releases “Buffalo Soldier” and “Iron Lion Zion“. His defining moment came "two days before he was supposed to perform he was shot. "two days later, he walked on stage and performed" and they asked him in a interview why didn't he rest, and he said "the people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I, light up the darkness" Today his imprints can be found all over the world. He had this notion, the only way to cure hate and racism, is by injecting it with love and music." Maybe he´s not here in the physical form, but he´s more alive now than ever. Thanks to music and love he left behind.

Another Starlight Faded .........Legendary Singer Lena Horne

Many of you are familiar with many famous Jazz musicians, but this legend should not go unnoticed. Lena Horne had a soft enchanting voice that captured the hearts of many,which eventually brought her to the mainstream. She died yesterday at the age of 92. Lena Horne made her mark in the 1940´s, she was the first black entertainer, who was invited to play with a white band. Along with other first, she was the first to play the Copacabana nightclub and among a handful with a Hollywood films. In 1943, MGM Studios loaned her to 20th Century-Fox to play the role of Selina Rogers in the all-black movie musical “Stormy Weather.” Her recognition of the title song, became a major hit and her signature piece. We will miss this faded star, who shared her talent and illustrious voice to the world. I am going to post a video of one of her most famous piece to date. Thanks for the memories Lena. You will be missed.

A lady from Germany arrives in Jamaica. She comes out of the terminal and sees a sign saying, rent here. She follows the sign to the end of the walkway. From a far, she sees a dread standing next to a car. The woman asks, Is this where you rent? The dread replies, yes daughta. The woman shocked by how cheap the rental was, ask the dread, Where do I go to pick up the rental? The dread replies, Right yaso daughta.The woman uncertain what the dread meant, ask if this was the only rental he had. The dread flashes his locks in excitement, I and I geh yu a good price, a yu a look fi a different ting fi rent. The woman replies. Yes I do want to rent, but I still can't believe your giving me such a good deal. The dread says. Well daugtha I and I wha yu fi enjoy yu stay. The woman response, alright, I will take it. The Dread shouts. Selassie Jah, I and I geh yu thanks onto thy name. The woman in the same tone, where do I go to pick up the keys to the car. The Dread baffled, oh, I and I did think seh yu come yah fi rent a dread.

A rastaman goes into a bank with the intention to open an account, The clerk ask the rastaman, do you have an id to open an account,the rastaman replies, no mon, I and I nuh belive inna dem ting deh, cause I and I nuh wha no problems wid Babylon.The clerk replies, well sir, in order for you to open a bank account with us, we need some type of identification, The rastaman with a look of confusion, goes deep into his pockets,searching for something to give to the clerk.
