Starry Day, Starry Night

A whirlpool of light
Is shooting over my head
Streaking with light
As I lay in my bed

It moves with such ease, like a bird
Already in flight
Flaring with flames
As it glares so bright

The stars move with such grace
Bringing a warming tickling sensation
Upon my face

The stars hover over tall trees
With a great determination
Like you wouldn’t believe
During the day
Its captivity goes unseen
Hiding behind the clouds
Calm like a breeze

At night
The colors of the stars
Swallow the galaxy whole
Barreling from above
Letting the world know
Starry day, starry night,
Where I rather be
Where life is nice….

Remembering Robert Nesta Marley

Robert Nesta Marley was born on February 6, 1945. He has been referred to by many, as the pioneer of Reggae music, exposing it to international scene. He was a Jamaican singer-songwriter and philosopher, who believed in the equal rights of all people. Taking his Rastafarian religion, he spread the message of love across the globe, and ideas that people can live together as one regardeless of their differences. Earlier in his career he merged with other up and coming artist to form a group known as the Wailers. He was the lead singer and guitarist spreading the sounds of ska, rock steady and reggae melodies to a worldwide audience.

Marley’s best known songs were. Redemption Song, I Shot the Sheriff, No Woman No Cry, Exodus and Stand Up, among others. He started a movement in Jamaica to unite the two Political Parities which was under much scrutiny at the time. His biggest defining moment came when he did a benefit concert in Jamaica. Bob united the two political parties on stage for the first time, while they shook hands and reconcile their difference. Shortly after Marley was diagnose with an illness that took his life at the age of 36. Though his life was taken so sudden, his message lives on in the hearts of many. He was a visionary activist and musician who used his talent for the greater good of humanity, connecting all races, religion and creed, spite of their differences. Today he is one of the all-time best selling reggae artist. Selling over 20 million copies in the US alone. He will always be known as the King of Reggae. Long Lives the King!!!!!

(Book Review) We Need To Talk About Kevin

We need to talk about kevin is a brillant and well rewritten novel by Lionel Shriver. Its provocative, dark, and indepth piece written by a mother desperalty searching for the truth ,of what might have caused her son to go off the deep end. It takes a premeditational and sequentual approach explainning the relationship between mother and son and what led a15 year old boy named Kevin to murder 7 of his fellow classmates, a cafeteria worker, and his English teacher in a Columbine-style school massacre. This event took place in the late 90's when schools across the country where dealing with shootings as it reached an all time high. This novel depicts the norms from the not so normality of everyday struggles that teens go through, to find their place in a competitive society, but deep inside feels a great deal of alienation. Many people across the country at the time put the blame on the media and its excess of violence deriving from television, movies, radio and other media outlets; shown to young viewers, while others just seemly took a different approach and put the blame souly on the parents. This book is important to me, because it's life and events like these happen more so now than before, so we need to acknowledge the issues. Otherwise we are gonna have generations running around, rampaged by hate and furry, trying to gain attention from the ones before them. So I recommend you all, We all need to talk about Kevin.

Find Ways to Survive

My people have been jailed, with the oppression of shame
Since the beginning of time
But yet, we find ways to survive!
My people have been fooled,
By deceit and lies,
Like prisoners committing a crime
But yet! we find ways to survive!
My people have found ways
To survive through hazardous conditions
Like roaches and rats
But yet, we find ways to survive!
.. ..
Historical facts, have been stolen and rewritten
Like a bandit strolling in the night
But yet, we find ways to survive!
The moon and the stars that reveal the brightness of the skies
Have disappeared with the rising tides, But yet, we find ways to survive!
The hopes and dreams that comes with a surprise
Has vanished, like a gift without a prize
But yet, we find ways to survive!
The truth has been covered, by corruption
And by the blindness of our eyes
But yet, we find ways to survive!
Once assembled like trains, but now scattered like dust
But yet, We find ways to survive

Hello Costa Rica

On August 2009, I will have the opportunity of a life-time. As I take aim, at a new direction, seeing and traveling the continent of Central America. I believe in learning, providing there is information out there to be attained. I also believe it opens and widens one’s perspective, breaking down barriers and educating one’s mind. There will be plenty of time for sightseeing and tourist attractions as well. I have come to the realization this would be the perfect opportunity to expand my horizon, considering the financial crisis of the country and also the lack of employment. As America looks to bounce back after eight years of downward spiral.

As a writer who has the expressive component of an artist, the best way to showcase talent, is being in an environment which allows one to do so. What I hope to gain by traveling to the Eastern Hemisphere, is finally knowing I am capable of being independent, without the assistants or aid of family and friends. Another reason for exploring these options is actually taking the time to see what else lies for me. Many times people spend all their time focused in one area, instead of having an opening mind and adapting to changes as it comes, so they remain in the same circumstances, therefore missing out on what could have been window of opportunity. Change is an important attribute, as mistakes are made so the person can me molded and sculpted to reinvent themselves, because without change, I believe a person dies, or let me put it in another way, the personality they need to go towards their achievement dies, so they remain stagnate never evolving or maturing. Most importantly the reason for the drastic change is doing the one thing I love doing in the whole world. Writing! As I take the opportunity working with youths who have special needs and developing them into the persons there are. I will assure them the confidence and knowledge they need to survive in the world.

In the current times when many children are lost within themselves in a competitive world, where guidance is no longer present, and a generation consumed by the lust and greed of the mighty green dollar, I am looking to instill self confidence, so they can strive towards their goals provided they will be meet them. I believe if children who are molded the right way, they can be productive in bringing out their talents. My intentions is to develop their characters, and instill a belief and purpose system in their minds, so they can flourish throughout life.

During the time of my travel, I will finally have the opportunity to learn a second language. As I travel to historical coliseums, bridges, monument, museums, statues, restaurants, and etc. I will be keeping a daily blog, explaining my daily encounters and exposures with the local natives. In my daily blog, I will record my daily activities, traveling and comparing the similarities and difference we share as a people. In doing this, the writing that I love, becomes refreshed and defined, as I look to develop my own writing persona and unique style. I hope traveling brings about a new chapter, and change in my life, as I look to go towards my dream of becoming known through my poetry, short stores, autobiographies biographies, screenplays and creative writing. In doing this it takes me closer and closer to my dream of becoming a well renowned writer. In doing this my life will become enriched and fulfilled. Look out world here I come!!!!!! I will keep you posted. Thanks One Love.

The Dream and the Dreamer

40 Years past
Since Impression last
When you stood on mountain top
Marching towards the task

You stood like the noble king
Courageous, brave and strong
Speaking of injustice, and how it was wrong
You spoke of peace, when others spoke of death
As u stood firm, marching towards the quest

Others rose in violence
While u came with revenge
Marching in unity
Trying to make a mends
Rosa Parks sat, then the King rose!
So people can unite!
And the prophesy could be told
Like a true King
You stood firm and tall
Breaking down barriers
Redefining the law

They might have killed the dreamer
But today, the dream still lingers on
Reaching across the globe
Whirling like a storm

Even in remembrance, your legacy reigns
Not losing sight or carrying us away…

Changes

The essence of life
The evolution of man
Which allows us to mature, grow and understand
Sheds our old skin, as we blossom into something special
As we deal with reality, from a whole different perception
Change helps us attain, in new expeditions we explore
As we withstand the pain, and adversity we endure
It closes a chapter, as we move onto the next
As we prepare for the truth, and begin our quest
Change propels us, into a whole new realm
Going beyond boundaries, not settling for less
It begins a new chapter, and rewrites stories of old
For it’s scary to know, new chapters can unfold
It’s satisfying to know, true friends remain constant, throughout the phase
As we overcome challenges, and look towards brighter days.
