How I Spent My Birthday

Sunday marked another year for me, at a time in most people´s lives, when they are scared to admit, this is the end of the road, because they´re one year away from their defining years, their thirties. As anxieties and fears play a factor in the individuals mind. As for me, I felt as if I were on a train, traveling to my final destination. Sunday marked my twenty-nine birthday, at time when I can say, the carefree years are over, and its time to think about the future. As for me, I have a serious complex about aging, because it has been mention, the older a person gets, the more the person loses their innocence and imagination. I didn't want to lose that, so I decided to rediscover my inner child, and make it a day to remember, because age is a reflection of mind, not the actual number itself. One of my best friends that I´ve developed a close friendship with, since I arrived in Costa Rica. Travis. We went on a day trip, to a place called Turrialba. Located 1.5 hours from the Central Area of San Jose, I had a great time traveling on a quit streets on a Sunday afternoon. The roads where clear as the blue skies above us, compared to the what we see on a busy work week. The scenery was magnificent, especially getting a chance to escape the city, and out from the smug and infested areas, and see the agriculture and vegetation. Before we headed on our trip, Travis and I made numerous stops, to stuff our faces with foods and goodies we were forbidding to eat when we were kids. We started the day with pizza, and from their got some nice cold beers to wash it down with.Afterward we went to a bakery store, and brought some bake goods. We left San Jose at 1:00pm, as we enjoyed every second looking at the scenery on the mountain side. The trip took us an estimate 1.5 hours, when we arrived at Turrialba the rain was just started to come down.I became a little discouraged at first about how the day was going to turn out, but Travis mentioned to me, just try to make the best out of it, which is what we exactly did. We arrived in the town, and walked around. It was enjoyable, as we took the time to sit in the park, where kids where playing in the sandbox, swinging on the swings, running around or riding a pony. I haven´t been around kids in a long time, and seeing the twinkle in their eyes, brought back memories of my childhood, and how I needed to rediscover it. I was getting hungry and I wanted to eat something that I wasn´t accustomed to eating from when I was a kid. Travis and I saw a fast food restaurants near the park. I had the munchies to try some crispy french fries. We went into the restaurant, and placed out order. After a anxious ten minutes, I have to say, those french fries where the best tasting I had in a long time, well maybe not, but just having the opportunity to stuff my face with grease, was an experience within itself. After we digested our plate, Travis and I decided to get more beers, and relax by the river, were we sat and threw rocks. I felt uneasy at first as people past by from up above and gave us hard stare, but after a while, we didn't care. I told Travis, to make this a day memorable, we have to do something out of the ordinary, and that is when we came up with the idea, to take a nice dip in the river. The idea at first seemed a little strange, but I reminded Travis, that birthday´s come around once a year, so might as well make the best of the opportunity. I went in first, shivering and all, as I made my way into the rapid waves. After a few minutes, getting acclimated with the cold water, I decided to make myself comfortable. Travis went in a few minutes later, and we started jumping around and playing as if we were eight year old kids. We stayed for a bit, as the weather became unpredictable, and the night skies began to fall. We swap stories about our adventures in Costa, As the night skies became to fall. Travis and I were happy and playful as can be as we decided buy more goodies at the store, and laugh at silly things our parents forbid us not to laugh about. We realized no matter how old we get, we will never forget the most precious gift of all, our innocence. Driving back from our day trip, I had the time to reflect, no matter old I get, my inner-child will always be apart of me.
