Is Loving Your Skin A Bad Thing?

Its been in the media for the past year now, that musical artists are changing their appearance, to blend with the motto, of what is beautiful in society, so they can create this new image, of self glorification. Vybz kartel, the dance hall artist, has been under fire of late, stinging  from his other dance hall counterparts, as well as others in the industry, about his sudden pigmentation change. What happened to motto, Black is beautiful?  Its a long history, when it comes to this issue, as countries such as Africa, India, Middle East, Caribbean, and other nations, that have darker skin, using chemicals to lighten their complexion, to fit societies ills, of what is beautiful. This can become dangerous and unhealthy, as it can bring about cancer that fades away the black, that is used to fight melanoma cancer, that protects darker skin people. In the latest vibe magazine issue, when ask about his drastic change, Vyz Kartel responded,  "I'm my own man, and as such I do my own thing. When black women stop straightening their hair and wearing wigs and weaves, when white women stop getting lip and butt injections and implants, when bald men stop getting hair transplants, and when people stop getting nose jobs and cosmetic surgery then I'll stop using the 'cakesoap' and we'll all live naturally ever after. Until then F**k you all."  This statement to me, comes as a shocker, especially when it comes  to the history of how people where rapped or forced to do hard labor. I've had the opportunity to travel to Central America in the past year, and how surprising arguments came about over who's skin was lighter. To me, this is a universal problem , because on the other side, it presents a  different prospective of what beauty is, as Caucasian,  go to tanning booths, to get their skin darker. Or go to specialist to have butt and lip implants  Has the whole world gone crazy! What wrong with loving your own skin, no matter the shade, variation or color. Its how we came about in human evolution. When I think of the world, I visualize a bouquet of flowers, that have a variety of different things to offer, when it comes to smell and beauty. Love your skin, no matter what grounds you stomp, or geographical area you represent. Be proud and love your skin.... One Love
