My life has always been filled with drama and despair for as long as I could remember. Born from the Island of Jamaica, I migrated to the US in the early 90’s, at the age of 10. I settled in the Westchester, New York area, where I grew up and matured into the person I am today. I graduated from Ossining High School in 2000 and went on to Mercy College where I graduated with a Degree in Journalism/Media. During my time at Mercy College, I found and developed my passion for writing. I currently work with children as an ESL teacher. Art Imitating Life Or Life Imitating Art?

An open quotation without a beginning or an end, this statement has been long associated with the comparison of a circle, which has no beginning or has no end, so what´s the verdict? For me, I think both forces are at work. I think its an eternal question that should be answered by the individual, because we all go through different life experiences that shape the way we think and feel about the world. For example, what came first, the chicken or the egg, no one can truely answer that question.I believe that(art and life) are intimately coexistant. One cannot survive without the other. Life without art and expresson would lose all meaning, just as art without life is meaningless.Obviously, life is prior to art and art is posterior to life. But when both are there in existence, one influences and imitates the other. Example, today many people are influeced by the media from what they hear and see. but, there are those who have creative avenues that can express their feelings or thoughts into their own stories or picture. In conclusion, I think both are reflective of each other. What is your take? Is Art imitating Life or is it Life imitating Art?

New Nas & Damian Marley Album - Distant Relatives

Distant Relatives is a collaborative album by rapper Nas and reggae artist Damian Marley. This album has the musical components of a hitmaker. Taken samples from African music, both artist sing about their shared ancestry, and their shared ancestry of a entire human race. The new album is empowering, and addresses real life situations affecting the black community. Many topics addressed in the latest album were: ancestry, poverty, and the plight of Africa. The first single, As We Enter, hit the top 100 billboard charts within its first week of release. I advise everyone to pick up a copy. Not for the support of the artist alone, but for the message they´re conveying in the music.

Here is the number 1 single: AS We Enter;

New Singing Sensation Jodi Fisher

Since my arrival in Costa Rica, I´ve been contemplating writing more featured stories about individuals, and how their lives have been affected. Last week, I had the opportunity to witness a talented and gifted young lady, by the name of Jodi Fisher, whose voice resembles a hummingbird. A few days ago, she did a performance in front of the University of Costa Rica. From the start, she grabbed the audience with her melodic sounds and enchanting voice, as she strummed her guitar singing in both Spanish and English. What made me more impressed with her is her humble soul, doing her music out of the kindness of her heart, and not for monetary gains or fame and fortune. She has an inviting spirit, which makes you want to sit and down and get to know her. I had the opportunity to get to know her on a personally level, and this is what she had to say, I am 24 year old and I am an adventurous, life-long student and learner. I have bachelor’s degrees in music education and Spanish, the thing I like to study most is the study of life, the study of adventure. ☺ I grew up in Moscow, ID, but I love to travel and love to communicate with people. I have always loved music. Ever since I was a little kid, I have been singing. I have several musical influences from various different musical styles, but I would say my style is probably singer-songwriter, or acoustic folk, but why don’t you listen to my music yourself and decide what you think my style is. When I was 15, I heard a favorite artist of mine say how easy it was to play her song because it only had 3 chords. So I asked my Dad to tune his guitar and then I taught myself those chords and more. I have been playing guitar ever since then, but it wasn’t until I spent a semester studying abroad in Costa Rica that I took playing guitar seriously. Maybe it was because everywhere I went and everything I did inspired me, or maybe it was just the right time for me in my life, but I started writing songs and playing the guitar more seriously. Although I studied singing in college and have been singing since I could make a sound, it was this time in Costa Rica that really allowed me to express myself as an artist. So I have technically been playing guitar for 7 years, but I would say seriously for 2 years. I have been playing the piano since I was in 2nd grade although I always tried to play it before then and most of the time taught myself how to play until I learned more in college. Music is a way how I express myself. I find absolute joy in singing. Song writing is just another way to do that. I write anything that comes to mind. I try to, however, only write what I am going through or about what I have been through because then I know I am truly expressing myself. Many people and things, as well as countries have inspired me throughout the years, but most recently LIFE itself inspires me the most. I love adventure and that’s exactly what I look forward to with my music in the future. I want to sing and play and find true joy in what I do. I want to share my love of life and my love of music with other people and maybe they just might relate with something I say or sing about. But really it’s about experiencing life together and I want to share who I am and I hope that in playing music in any and all situations and anywhere that I possibly can, that I will learn more about myself and help other people learn more about themselves. I am currently living in Costa Rica until further notice. I plan on giving concerts and doing gigs anywhere people want to hear my music and I plan on finishing my first CD as soon as time, money, and everything else allows. But the idea is to play music and do what I love to do and then from there, see what happens. Here is the link to her website. Please take a look, trust me, you won´t be disappointed. This young lady defiantly has a bright future ahead of her, and with the love and joy she has for the music, the stars are definitely aligned for this singing sensation. How I Spent My Birthday

Sunday marked another year for me, at a time in most people´s lives, when they are scared to admit, this is the end of the road, because they´re one year away from their defining years, their thirties. As anxieties and fears play a factor in the individuals mind. As for me, I felt as if I were on a train, traveling to my final destination. Sunday marked my twenty-nine birthday, at time when I can say, the carefree years are over, and its time to think about the future. As for me, I have a serious complex about aging, because it has been mention, the older a person gets, the more the person loses their innocence and imagination. I didn't want to lose that, so I decided to rediscover my inner child, and make it a day to remember, because age is a reflection of mind, not the actual number itself. One of my best friends that I´ve developed a close friendship with, since I arrived in Costa Rica. Travis. We went on a day trip, to a place called Turrialba. Located 1.5 hours from the Central Area of San Jose, I had a great time traveling on a quit streets on a Sunday afternoon. The roads where clear as the blue skies above us, compared to the what we see on a busy work week. The scenery was magnificent, especially getting a chance to escape the city, and out from the smug and infested areas, and see the agriculture and vegetation. Before we headed on our trip, Travis and I made numerous stops, to stuff our faces with foods and goodies we were forbidding to eat when we were kids. We started the day with pizza, and from their got some nice cold beers to wash it down with.Afterward we went to a bakery store, and brought some bake goods. We left San Jose at 1:00pm, as we enjoyed every second looking at the scenery on the mountain side. The trip took us an estimate 1.5 hours, when we arrived at Turrialba the rain was just started to come down.I became a little discouraged at first about how the day was going to turn out, but Travis mentioned to me, just try to make the best out of it, which is what we exactly did. We arrived in the town, and walked around. It was enjoyable, as we took the time to sit in the park, where kids where playing in the sandbox, swinging on the swings, running around or riding a pony. I haven´t been around kids in a long time,and seeing the twinkle in their eyes, brought back memories of my childhood, and how I needed to rediscover it. I was getting hungry and I wanted to eat something that I wasn´t accustomed to eating from when I was a kid. Travis and I saw a fast food restaurants near the park. I had the munchies to try some crispy french fries. We went into the restaurant, and placed out order. After a anxious ten minutes, I have to say, those french fries where the best tasting I had in a long time, well maybe not, but just having the opportunity to stuff my face with grease,was an experience within itself. After we digested our plate, Travis and I decided to get more beers, and relax by the river,were we sat and threw rocks. I felt uneasy at first as people past by from up above and gave us hard stare, but after a while, we didn't care. I told Travis, to make this a day memorable, we have to do something out of the ordinary, and that is when we came up with the idea, to take a nice dip in the river. The idea at first seemed a little strange, but I reminded Travis, that birthday´s come around once a year, so might as well make the best of the opportunity. I went in first, shivering and all, as I made my way into the rapid waves. After a few minutes, getting acclimated with the cold water, I decided to make myself comfortable. Travis went in a few minutes later, and we started jumping around and playing as if we were eight year old kids. We stayed for a bit, as the weather became unpredictable, and the night skies began to fall. We swap stories about our adventures in Costa, As the night skies became to fall. Travis and I were happy and playful as can be as we decided buy more goodies at the store, and laugh at silly things our parents forbid us not to laugh about. We realized no matter how old we get, we will never forget the most precious gift of all, our innocence. Driving back from our day trip, I had the time to reflect, no matter old I get, my inner-child will always be apart of me.

Lakers Dominance

The Lakers won their 16 championship in franchise history, leaving their mark as one of the most dominant teams in NBA history. Game 7 was played down to the wire, as both teams hit huge shots and made huge plays down the strech, but towards the end, the Lakers won the game on the boards, and made more plays to win the game. The difference were Derrick Fisher and Ron Artest. Both players hit two turning point three´s to swing the momentum in their favor. On a night and expense of his 5 championship, Kobe Bryant made one of the funniest comments that could be ever been made by a basketball player, when a reporter asked, what makes this championship special to you as an individual, Kobe said,¨I have one more to Shaq, so you can take that to the bank. Statments like that, shows his competitive spirit and wiliness to win. Their is no argument about it, he has solidify his greatest on the game. The difference now compared to the player he was in the past, is his ablity and effectiveness to distrubute the ball and trust his teammates. We all know he´s a force to be reckeon with, but when it comes down to individuality, no one superstar can win championshipships, but his maturity as a basketball player has made the difference.At only 31 years old, and still plays at a high level. Kobe Bryant can past his idol Micheal Jordan,for possibily two more championship. Whatever the future holds, I can´t tell you, but as for the moment, there is no question, Kobe Bryant is the ultimate competitor, who will be the talk on alot of people´s minds, for arguably being the greatest player to ever played the game.
