Health Tips- Ginger Tea

In Jamaica,  I've always known Ginger Tea as  a natural herb remedy  that is excellent for Treating
Nausea, Relieving Joint Pain,  Digestive Disorders, Promoting Heart Health,  and Treating Colds,  but new studies have shown that drinking green tea can help prevent migraines according the the metro newspaper special edition on Health and wellness expert  Joy Bauer "Today" show and New York Times best-selling author. You can buy one of the mainstream brands that make ginger tea, or you can easily prepare your own homemade version by cutting fresh ginger into strip into thin strips and boiling with water for about five minutes, I always add a little brown sugar for  a souce of  iron. And with warmer weather around the corner, try pouring your tea some ice over it to cool you down. The water keeps your hydrated, which is very important since hydration is a common migraine trigger.

Rubik Cube Artist Pete Fecteau

Artist Pete Fecteau will use 3, 612 Rubik's cube to create a piece of art for "Brain Games," a new television show on National Geographic. Using a digital template and working on a 43-foot section at a time, he will turn an empty Midtown storefront into a gigantic mural. In 2010 Fecateau created a mural in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Made of Rubik's Cubes.  It all it took him 40 hours to complete and it weighed half a ton. The project he calls Dream Big wasn't an easy, in a blog called Modern Met he said, There were many times where I'd want to give up and then the next day I'd get a call that forced me back on the horse. I kind of feel like it was willing itself to be made. I can't say I'm surprised by the attention. When I first looked at the finished product I was in as much awe as everyone else. I'm very happy to have this make people think about what's possible." I call this pure Genius. Take a look at his progress below.

Cigarette War Vs Real War

Its has been brought to my attention this morning that we are losing  more and more control of our personal lives. Reported in the AM New York newspaper this morning, after banning the butts from the bars, beaches, and parks,  they city is targeting young New Yorkers in its battle against smoking. The mayor Micheal Bloomberg along with majority council support purpose a new bill that would make the Big Apple the first big city to raise the minimum age to buy tobacco products from 18 to 21. The reason, too many teenagers are getting hooked not only because they can't start buying packs at 18 but because they are often given cigarettes to their younger friends. The other reason ties into "Those people who are not smokers at the age of 21 are less likely to ever start. For me its really difficult to comprehend, because for one thing 18 years of age is a teenager yes, but by the rules of society confirms we are adults. We have the  right to vote, we can enlist and serve our country, so why are we being treated like kids, when it comes to our own individual  rights and freedom, why should someone else redefine our adulthood? We are grown by our parents and by our guardians, to affectedly think  for ourselves by the age of 18, to have the right to make our own choices without the  constant involvement of others , so what does this new law justify? We are not old enough to make our own decision? When we can die for our country at 18, but our own personal pleasures don't matter? Lastly, no matter how you try to put up barriers, fences, and walls around things, its not going to eradicate the problem, because the problems still exist. That is why we have parents, teachers, guidance counselors, elders to make us aware of the influences of our  world. Kids are always going to find away around situations, remember when you were a kid? The only way to tackle these issues is to be upfront and  honest and hope they will make the right decision for themselves.

Balacing Act: Liberty vs Security

United States of America is regarded as the best nation on Earth. For the simple fact of its freedom rights and liberty . We've crossed a new threshold in America. Americans everywhere confronted the unsettling possiblity that safety within the borders is prehaps more illusory  than we imagineed.Terrorist acts by residents as Americans citizens  is no longer a foriegn idea. Everywhere you go you have to be alert of your surroundings. If we see something, we do need to say something. There is an important element we must consider, the act of Liberty vs Security. We must be careful without going crazy. And law  enforceres must stay alert to danger without unduly intruding our privacy. The future has arrived and it demands poise and sound judgement. But fear and apprehension  can't be the new normal.

Earth Hour- You Have The Power To Change The World

No matter where you come from or where your headed, I truly believe that every living person on the planet has the ability to change the world. I came across this interesting article paying tribute to Mother Earth. Earth Hour, which is held on March 23 from 8:30 to 9:30pm was the biggest citizens-mobilzation event the world has ever seen. With events in 7,000 cities and town across more than 150 countries, as well as trending topics on Twitter, Sina Weibo, Facebook and other social networks, a wave of real-life and digital celebrations undulating around the globe.  Earth Hour has led to legislations in the Russian parliament to better protect the countr's seas from oil pollution. Austrailian Prime Minister Julia Gillard used the occasion of Earth Hour od Earth Hour  to announce her commitment to her commitment to establishing a carbon pricing system. And Earth Hour is the inspiration behind reforestation projects in Africa, such as the newely-announced Earth Hour forest in Uganda where 2,700 hectares of degraded land have been secured for reforestation. Individuals took major Earth Hour action, by daring the world to save the planet in the 1 Will If You Will campaign. The pledged actions ranging from going  paperless to cycling to work, eating local to turning their heating down. Every action counts. People around the world gathered again- from Rio de Janerio to Beijing, from Rome to San Francisco, from Delhi to London-to show they cared about the planet and our our future on it. Lets take this moment to recognize we are all brothers and sisters and if we come together for the common good of our planet the future for our kids can be as bright as be, but we must remember change starts with who we see in the mirror, so with that being said, you have the power to change the world.

Earth Day Edition- New York Fracking

In the New York Metro Newspaper this morning,  I read that there is growing concern  over fracking,  which grassroots organization have been fighting for more than four years now. It's  a dangerous method of drilling for natural gas that involves injection millions of gallons of fresh water mixed with toxic chemicals and sand underground to break open shale rock formations that contain gas. This is very problematic for many New Yorker's who depend on the reservoirs for drinking water and basic necessities of life. Many organizers  say that fracking is disastrous for the climate as well, because it releases methane,a potent greenhouse gas into the atmosphere.  Concerns citizens have been assembling in town halls, rallied in the capitol petitioned door to door, lobbied their legislators and called Gov. Andrew  Cuomo to put a stop to it. The grassroots moment has pushed the issue ts bay, advocating for better and safer ways of explore our environment, thereby protecting the public health and environment of New York. Most powerful corporation along with Andrew Cuomo have spend millions to convince the public that fracking is safe. Guomo has repeated that science will play a role in determining whether or not to allow fracking in New York, which he states he will listen to the countless medical experts, scientist  and health organizations  for assessments. Organizers are displeased that the current delays are taking so long, but is positive that the eventually it will reveal the promising truth. More needs to be done,  Instead of sacrificing our precious clean water, air and land for short term gains, there must be another way?  In the celebration of Earth Day, we must realize that we control the our own destiny, we have the key to open the doors,  for what we do now, has an impact on our future. For many who feels that drilling is not a major problem,  natural gas is harmful and releases toxins into the atmosphere, imagine the impact that it  will take on  our bodies. Its up to us to educate ourselves as well as continue to push corporation to come with alternate means of green energy. Otherwise we will be on the verge of extintion Happy Earth Day Everyone!!! Remember change starts with you.
